XINDAK XA-6950
Integrated amplifiers
It is assumed that your opinion on a person forms within first five minutes and it is quite difficult to change it afterwards. At Xindak they apparently follow this advice - the XA-6950 makes a very good impression at first look already.
Function and form
The Xindak XA-6950 works with current feedback, it is built on FET devices and provides its power within Class A up to 2x30W where it switches into Class AB. The volume is controlled by a blue ALPS potentiometer which is in turn controlled by a chip allowing for 120 volume steps. It is quite okay for daytime listening, at night the step between loudness of two neighbouring volume levels was too high for me.
Bass management
The Xindak provides both RCA and XLR inputs and detachable power cord. A nice touch: via its remote one can learn what is the temperature inside the amplifier. I was usually receiving readings around 35°C (need to say that it was not more than fifteen degrees in my listening room at the time of this review).
Clarity & delicacy
The Xindak exhibited in the intimate recording of Pinetop Perkins' Born in The Delta - the soundstage was studio-like, the piano was very present and the vocal (Perkins was 83 in the time of the recording) was very natural. I used the XA-6950 with Xindak''s Muse Deluxe CD player and the combo was pleasantly strong in all important midrage with warm and round bass and silky highs. There was no attempt to stun the listener with the overblown bass or overly bright high frequencies - the Xindak understood how the music was built and it respected it.
Tonal accuracy
I liked the dynamics of drums in the notoriously famous opening of Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra (The Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra with Zubin Mehta in K2HD masteringu) . Also the horn fanfare was like a blazing knife cutting through the organ crescendo. The Muse Deluxe was also capable of sufficient resolution - the cello tremolo was spatially complex and texturally right.
Spatial resolution
The combination of the XA-6950 and the CD Muse Deluxe allows for switching between tubed and solid-state output mode (the Muse Deluxe offers such an unusual feature) - check our review of the Xindak Muse Deluxe to learn more.
